If you're new to Portland or simply looking for some new ways to appreciate your amazing city you can find everything you need in Portland Monthly's annual Newcomer's Guide, an ancillary publication to the monthly magazine. I was the editorial designer on this super fun, bright and poppy mag. I worked with Portland Monthly's Art Director, Mike Novak, on the overall vision and section opener photography.
For the section openers we worked with minature train figurines and some non-minuature real human props, adding a sense of whimsy and absurdity that I feel reflects the Portland spirit (the concept, not the river cruise). And what I'm sure you really want to know is, who got to bite that donut? Well, I don't remember, but I can promise you this: we all got donuts that day.
